Cracked Eggs Don't Hatch!
NEW
When I was
about 6 years old, one of my friends had ducks. One day I decided that our
family should have ducks, too. My friend and I carefully selected a new duck egg
and we set off to my place. We knew that it should be kept warm until it hatched
and the plan was to wrap it in something soft then put it into a warm cupboard
alongside the water heater. On the way home I dropped the egg, which didn’t
break but the shell certainly cracked. “That’s ok,” said my friend with 6 year
old wisdom, “it will make it hatch more quickly.”
This address explores the issue of bad
odours and things such as customer service!

* Three Angles: One Focus
NEW
“How do we develop the leadership necessary for
future success?”
Three angles - Technical Leadership, Professional
Leadership, Personal Leadership – are necessary components for building and
sustaining excellence. These three issues are explored in way that shows both
their convergence and their uniqueness. The problems of imbalance are
illustrated and the way for constructing a sound leadership balance is
provided. One Focus then becomes the path forward – building and
sustaining leadership in such a way greater organisational, personal and
professional satisfaction is achieved.
This address is being given at the
2010 Engineering Leadership Conference in Brisbane, Australia.

* Leadership - the
ultimate team experience
You can be "a leader" on your own, but if you're involved with other
people, you need leadership.
Drawing on personal experience, I explore how to harness the energies of
everyone involved so as to obtain the results desired. Some of the mistakes I
made and disclose are, in retrospect, quite funny!

* You can't teach
Leadership
Orientated towards people in HR and Training, this address looks at the
difference between trying to make people into leaders as opposed to
encouraging people to learn about and practice leadership.
Drawing on personal anecdotes from my eclectic background - many of them
humorous - I explore the difference between "teaching" and "learning"
leadership.

* Environmental Vandals
We hear a lot about global warming and the need to look after the planet -
those who desecrate it are becoming increasingly vilified. But what about
managerial behaviour that destroys the confidence and commitment of its
people?
This address explores the impact of management behaviour on people - and
hence on organisational results. Want top results: create a top environment
for people to work in. This address will show you "how".

* Looking after the
Grandkids
Orientated towards community interest groups, this address asks the
question "what sort of world are we leaving to our children and
grandchildren?"
From family memories I look at the importance of stressing societal as well
as economic issues and how a better future world requires us all to work
together.
